How to Participate in the DeGraff Stables, Inc. Charity Program

DeGraff Stables is pleased to continue in 2012 the popular Charity Program from 2011.  We will once again donate a portion of each Futurity Breeding booked to the Charity of the Mare Owners Choice from our list of eligible organizations.  In 2011, we chose many deserving programs and all of these will still be available in 2012 as a selection option.  We will also continue to find programs that provide relief, hope and help to individuals, and, while you may choose the charity of your choice for donation, each month we will highlight a different program.

Thanks to the owners of each stallion that is resident for the 2012 breeding season at DeGraff Stables, many breed futurity programs are supported by the donation of a free breeding by the stallion owners for a breeding season to their stallions.  These breedings are made available by the futurity organizations at a discounted rate to mare owners.  Once a mare owner purchases the breeding to the stallion of their choice, the funds are made available in future years for the foals of the resulting matings to compete and earn by winning during competitions.

DeGraff Stables, Inc. February Charity Promotion

Donate To "Horses For Heroes"!

Join DeGraff Stables, Inc. in support of our selected charity for February!  We have chosen to donate half of the Futurity booking fees collected to a program named “Horses For Heroes”.  Locally, “Horses For Heroes” is under the umbrella of CKRH; Central Kentucky Riding For Hope which is an organization located at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington that provides equine assisted activities for both children and adults.  “Horses For Heroes” is in it’s pilot phase and is being implemented around the country by approved NARHA, North American Riding for the Handicapped Association facilities.  Each location operates the “Horses For Heroes” a bit differently.

In central Kentucky, CKRH has formed collaboration with the two Lexington VA Hospitals to provide services for veterans; specifically to treat PTSD – post traumatic stress disorder.  We understand that other “Horses For Heroes” programs around the country may make additional services available and that extend to the families of our servicemen while they are away from home.  We encourage anyone interested to contact Joan Wilcoxen, the CKRH Volunteer Coordinator at volunteers@ckrh.org for information on the CKRH program or to see if she may be able to help you find a chapter of “Horses For Heroes” in your home area!  We challenge you to get involved!

DeGraff Stables, Inc. January Charity Promotion

DeGraff Stables Charity Program January Selection!

DeGraff Stables Charity Program January Selection!

Join DeGraff Stables, Inc. in support of our selected charity for January!  We have chosen the Black Stallion Literacy Foundation for January’s donation, as this non-profit organization helps children discover the joys of reading and the excitement of learning through the wonders of live horses and Walter Farley’s Black Stallion books…  we thought… what better way to grow our equine horse business for future generations than to help children learn to read and at the same time… to love horses?

We realize that mare owners have many fantastic choices when it comes to selecting a pleasure horse stallion for crossing on their mare.  If your plans include one of the stallions from our extra-ordinary line-up of Champion Quarter Horses, Paints or Warmblood stallion, for 2012 and you are successful in obtaining an available discounted futurity/donated breeding to one of them, DeGraff Stables, Inc. will donate half of your booking fee to The Black Stallion Literacy Foundation for those bookings made in January!  You will not only be supporting the futurity of your choice and the resulting offspring, you will be providing enjoyment and education to youngsters!  More information may be found at: http://www.bslf-online.org/

DeGraff Stables, Inc. December Charity Promotion

DeGraff Stables Charity Program December Selection!

DeGraff Stables Charity Program December Selection!

We are thrilled to report, that in December, DeGraff Stables donates a portion of each stallion’s futurity booking to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research. The Jimmy V Foundation was selected as the V Foundation takes great pride in its fiscal responsibility and is proud to announce that it gives 100 percent of all new direct cash donations to cancer research and related programs.  According to  Charity Navigator, the V Foundation has a 4-Star Rating.  This means that the charity exceeds inudstry standards and outperforms most charities in its cause!  Administrative and fundraising expenses are paid by their endowments.   I had chosen cancer research in admiration of my best friend whom has been fighting colon cancer for five years now.  And, I am sure that most everyone has close friends or family whose lives have been touched by this debilitating disease.

My hope is that by supporting research, someday, a cure may be found.  We would like to thank everyone whom took advantage of booking a futurity in December and helped to support this exceptional organization.  In fact, one person, in honor of his wife whom was lost to cancer actually matched our donation.  Bless you!  More information regarding The Jimmy V Foundation may be found at: http://www.jimmyv.org/

Thanks again, and if you have any questions, you may email me at robin@whatiwork4.com ,or, please call us at the office 859.846.5000 or I may be reached by cell phone 419.573.9098!

P.S., I couldn’t resist posting this picture of James, Theo and David from last summer!… they grew their hair and shaved their heads bald to donate their hair to make wigs.  These wigs were donated to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments through Jame’s church program.
